Circuit Court of Appeals vacated a lower court's approval of the massive class action, which included virtually every resident of Ohio and put considerable legal pressure on the chemical manufacturers to settle the plaintiffs' claims. The appeals court instructed the lower court to dismiss Hardwick's lawsuit, which had aimed to force the companies to pay for studies analyzing the health impacts of PFAS. The lawsuit also sought to establish a fund to monitor Ohio residents for health impacts from PFAS exposure. The chemicals are often referred to as forever chemicals because they do not easily break down in nature or in the human body.

Former Vice President Mike Pence is having an unusually quiet week on the trail after filing a finance report showing his campaign facing money troubles. The usually busy Pence campaign’s only public event this week was a pre-planned Tuesday Newsmax town hall in Windsor Heights, Iowa . Instead, the Pence campaign says he will be in Dallas for private fundraisers and a Republican National Committee event. That puts a serious strain on the day-to-day operations of the campaign — and what's more, Pence also faces a sprint to amass the 70,000 unique donors needed to qualify for the Nov. 8 GOP presidential debate. His campaign has not yet commented on how close it is to meeting the donor threshold, which was a struggle for Pence in the lead-up to the first GOP debate in August.

It's hard to tell, for a simple reason: The data on the safety of robot cars sucks. If the data on robot cars is equivocal or incomplete, then those rules should keep them off the road. In a sense, she's Elon Musk's worst nightmare. In August, 3M secured preliminary approval for a $10.3 billion deal resolving claims by U.S. public water providers over pollution by PFAS. While the non-PFAS manufacturing continues at the Belgian facility, PFAS has been idled. "The consumer has shifted spending from discretionary to staples and other experimental activities," 3M Chief Financial Officer Monish Patolawala said. 3M, which makes electronic displays for smartphones and tablets, is witnessing a significant drop in U.S. retailers' inventories as spending on consumer electronics declined amid stubborn inflation and higher borrowing rates.
